What is Colour Correction?

Colour correction or preservation is a technique used to either restore or maintain colour within flowers. The flowers are dried and then a colour correction dye is carefully added to each individual flower, stem, petal & leaf by hand, returning flowers as close to their natural colour as possible. This technique is suitable for most flowers and frames and ensures that flowers maintain their colours for many decades. It can also be applied to flowers that are already dry or sun bleached to restore them as close as possible to their original colour.

Colour correction is permanent and unlike naturally dried flowers, colour corrected flowers will not fade over time. If looked after carefully they will maintain their vibrant colours indefinitely.

Colour Corrected Bouquet

Colour Correction on a sun bleached bouquet

This bouquet was dried in our studio. The white flowers dried naturally to creams and browns so the bouquet was colour corrected returning the flowers to their original colours, before being reassembled and framed.

This bouquet had been dried at home by the couple and had become very dry and sun bleached. The bouquet was carefully re-hydrated to make the flowers less fragile, it was then taken apart in our studio and working from the wedding photos each flower and leaf was colour corrected and the bouquet then reconstructed ready to be framed.

Colour Correction vs Naturally Dried

Which is better? Do my flowers need colour correcting? When do I have to decide?

Neither option is better or worse than the other. It is purely down to personal taste, budget and what your expectations are. Consider your home, where your framed bouquet will hang and what colour palette/style of design you will love. Your framed bouquet is a unique piece of art that will be kept on show in your home as an everlasting reminder of your special day. Do you prefer fresher, brighter looking colours and flowers or the natural more subtle muted vintage look of dried flowers?

If you want your framed bouquet to look as close as possible to how your fresh bouquet looked on your wedding day and to maintain that look forever then your best option is colour correction.

If you want your flowers dried and are happy with the natural colour changes that occur with drying and the natural fading and changing of colours over time then your best option is naturally dried.

All flowers have to be dried before they can be colour corrected so if you are unsure as to which option to go with, you can wait until your flowers have dried before making your choice.
